Reactivity of Primary antibody
« on: August 01, 2012, 11:26:48 PM »
Hi friends,

We have procured a polyclonal primary antibody for bovine species which was raised in goat against my target protein. I want to use the same antibody for goat species for the same target protein. Does it work for goat? I have tried it once but i couldn't detect any band...

Help me.......

Hi, if the target protein, or the part of the protein which the antibody is raised against, is identical between the two species (bovine and goat) it should work I suppose. I donĀ“t know if it may be any problems because it is the same species, an anti-goat IgG used for a goat protein ?
Anyhow, it is of course important that the target protein is expressed at detectable levels in goat. Proteins can be expressed at diffeternt levels in different species. Even though the protein is expressed in both species there could be minor differences in proteinsequence/structure which may effect the antibody binding.
Good luck.
